Nursing Assistant Jobs - CNA Career
Search for a nursing degree now
So you’ve completed your nursing assistant classes, passed the exam and you’re a certified nursing assistant. Now what? Well, there are many places where you can choose to start your new career. What you choose will depend largely on your own personal preference and career goals and may be in part determined by the demands for employment in your area.
Nursing assistants have the skills necessary to work in hospitals, a variety of medical facilities, home health care situations and long term care facilities. About half of nursing assistants work in residential health care facilities, like nursing homes, while about 30 percent work in hospitals. Jobs such as these will form the greater bulk of employment opportunities available to new graduates but as with any field, opportunities will vary by location. Other opportunities may be found working with home health care or in psychiatric facilities, both of which have great need of qualified nursing assistants.
Being a nursing assistant is a stressful job and one that people often use a springboard to attaining other nursing positions as they complete additional schooling. Because of this, it’s a field with a lot of turnover. This, coupled with a growing and understaffed health care sector, make it so that there is always a high demand for qualified nursing assistants. Graduates of training programs and especially those with some experience will have little trouble finding employment in this field. The greatest demand for CNAs in the coming years will be in the field of home health care, though hospitals and medical facilities will offer a wide range of employment opportunities as well.
It’s good to keep in mind that not every situation will suit every person. Take some time to figure out just where and with whom you want to work. For example, if you’re dedicated to caring for children working in an elder care facility may not make you truly happy. With experience, you’ll gain access to more job opportunities that can help you further refine your career goals and get you on the path to a happy and rewarding career as a CNA.
